![]() "Today is Labor Day in the United States. A holiday created by the labor movement, dedicated to the achievements of American workers. The first laws were passed in the late 1880's but it took longer for Congress to pass an act making the first Monday in September a legal holiday. Now that we have this excellent holiday, what ya wanna do? This morning, I lazed in bed a bit, tweeting and instagramming. Then, I made the mistake of gazing in the mirror... Oh Lord! Kerchiefs were made for days like today! Then, I did my yoga practice (don't laugh, at least I try. Asanas (sitting pose) is perfect for today. In fact, I may practice it most of the day! Then I worked on my cookbook as I sipped French press coffee my husband, Russell, made and now, I am posting this blog before I sit outside with Russell, bird watch and contemplate what he will set fire to later today, I mean barbecue. You see, Russell loves to cook outdoors. He says he 'applies heat.' I say barbecuing is simply a good excuse for him to drink two beers! I think we are both right... I purchased some lovely, fresh corn and I am thinking maybe some sort of a chili and lime butter concoction will be applied to those. I have a hankering for chocolate so maybe some brownies or even a chocolate cheesecake because I have some creamy mascarpone cheese I have been wanting to use. Oh! Wait! I just made some organic strawberry jam too so maybe a cheesecake with strawberry swirl is the ticket! Pork chops are a possibility as the main course, I am still undecided. The flavors of the main dish will echo the flavors of the citrusy corn I think. See how I plan a meal. I don't! I just "kick my shoes off" and go with what I have on hand and let my mind wander... What foods are you 'not planning' for today? Share your impromptu dishes in the comments section.
