You know what I adore about Christmas time, Dear Readers? I utterly and unabashedly ADORE silly and sappy Christmas-themed movies! Our younger daughter, Mia, shares my affinity for them too. From Thanksgiving forward, Mia and I monopolize the television with all manner of silly and sappy. We watch ALL the Hallmark movies - I mean ALL too. Our oldest daughter, Alyssa, sits in silence while she watches Dr. Who or Marvel shows on her phone or studies or whatever... My husband, Russell, claims to hate Hallmark movies but he is a liar. How can anyone hate Hallmark movies? They are sex-free, silly, sappy and predictable. Perfect after a long day at work! We tape them, skim past the commercials and predict the storyline and ending within the first 30 seconds of viewing.
Then, there is the other type of silly and sappy Christmas-themed movie. "The Classic." I say "Christmas-themed" movie, because most classic Christmas movies have little or nothing to do with Christmas. Most "Classic Christmas" movies take place during Christmas but are not about Christmas specifically. Take, "White Christmas" and "It's a Wonderful Life" as examples. Both movies take place during Christmas but are not about Christmas at all. That is not to say "Classic Christmas" movies are not about Christmas of course. I am only saying, Christmas time is just the perfect time to (have an excuse to) indulge in the "silly and sappy." My favorite Christmas-themed movie is "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. I LOVE it in all it's glorious renditions and silly and sappy slants. Please share your favorite (silly and sappy) indulgence and Christmas-themed movie in the comments section.
