Today I get to indulge in a holiday tradition that makes the Christmas season so wonderful, BAKING! I find myself dancing about our home singing 'dum dee dum' to myself with a sassy spring in my step. (This could also be the steroids I began today and am a tad hopped up on...) There are only days to Christmas and there is much to be baked! The butter and eggs are out and ready to be creamed. I have lots of different extracts to flavor treats and plenty of sugar and flour. My countertops are clean and free of stuff. I have readied cookie cutters and gathered decorations. I have all manner of boxes, bags, wraps and plates ready to be filled. I am giddy with excitement and joyful to put Igy (our new Frigidaire oven) to good use.
Today, our older daughter, Alyssa, is home. That in and of itself is cause for celebrating but today, she and I get to bake and bake and bake! We will bake Greek Koulalikia (Twisty Cookies) and we will make Russian Tea Cakes. This afternoon, when her sister, Mia, comes home from school, we will make more things for Mia's friends (she has chosen) such as rice crispy treats we shape and decorate and more Italian Ricotta Cookies. By Friday, a platter of treats will be ready to send into my husband, Russell's, office and also to deliver to friends. That means MORE baking, Dear Readers! YAY!
